Romualdo Segurola, M.D

After completing his training at the University of Minnesota, Dr. Segurola established South Florida Heart & Lung Institute in 2004 with the goal of using his knowledge and experience to bring superb quality of care to patients in the Miami area.

Dr. Segurola has a special interest and expertise in coronary artery bypass surgery, thoracoscopy assisted surgery for atrial fibrillation, aortic root reconstruction, minimally invasive valve surgery, and treatment options for end stage heart disease.

Since 2006, Dr. Segurola has served as Chief of Cardiac Surgery for Palmetto General Hospital and Chief of Cardiopulmonary Surgery for Mercy Hospital. He also holds the position of Medical Director of the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit at Palmetto General Hospital.

In the year 2006-2007, Dr. Segurola was named in the America’s Registry of Outstanding Professionals. He has been awarded the City of Hialeah Appreciation Award in both 2008 and 2009. The American Heart Association honored Dr. Segurola with a Recognition Award in March of 2009, and the City of Hialeah Gardens presented him with The Mayor’s Award for Distinguished Public Service in March of 2009 as well.

In addition to his full time clinical practice, Dr. Segurola dedicates time to research, participating in cutting edge clinical trials in many disciplines, offering the latest in pharmaceutical and device options.

As a result of his expertise, Dr. Segurola has had articles and studies published through renowned medical institutions including Yale University School of Medicine and the University of Minnesota, as well as contributing book chapters to three different published works.

Dr. Segurola practices cardiothoracic surgery, performing operations that save lives and improve the quality of life of his patients and is an active part of the National Spokesperson Panel for the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association.
