Alfredo Rego, M.D.
Dr. Rego joined South Florida Heart & Lung Institute in 2007 and is acting as Medical Co-Director of the practice. In doing so, he became a part of one of the most experienced cardiac surgery teams in South Florida.
Dr. Rego has interests in adult cardiac surgery, general thoracic surgery, peripheral vascular surgery, surgical electrophysiology, endovascular therapies, and minimally invasive and robotic surgery. He has a special interest and expertise particularly in vascular surgery, offering consultations and treatment options on site in the South Florida Heart & Lung Institute office.
Since 2006, Dr. Rego has served as the Chief of Thoracic and Vascular Surgery at Palmetto General Hospital, as well as the Medical Director of Vascular Surgery Services. He is also the Co-Chairman of the Department of Cardiac Surgery and Assistant Medical Director at the Heart Institute at Palmetto General Hospital. Dr. Rego serves as Vice Chairman of the Department of Surgery at Aventura Hospital and Medical Center.
Dr. Rego was named in America’s Top Surgeons in Cardiac, Thoracic and Vascular Surgery in 2007, 2008, and 2009. He was awarded the Physician Dedication Award for Excellence in Cardiovascular Surgery Outcomes by Aventura Hospital & Medical Center in 2007 and 2009, as well as the Physician Excellence Award for Excellence in Cardiac Surgery Services and for Service as Vice-Chief of Department of Surgery by Aventura Hospital & Medical Center in 2008.
Along with his full time clinical practice, Dr. Rego has dedicated himself both in the past and presently to research and is participating in numerous trials in order to further enhance the quality of care for his patients.
Due to his extensive knowledge in his field, Dr. Rego has participated in meeting presentations with other specialists in his field. He has also had book chapters and reviews published, along with many published manuscripts that have been reviewed by his esteemed peers.
Dr. Rego is an invaluable part of the team of expert cardiovascular surgeons at South Florida Heart & Lung Institute.
